ELTHAM.
(From Our Own Correspondent). Anzac Day was celebrated on Friday in brilliant, sunshine. Prior to the meeting in the Town Hall a procession of returned soldiers, territorial, etc, headed by the town and Salvation Army bands, passed through the ma streets. At the hall the chair was taken by the mayor (Mr. T. B. Crump) and readings, addresses, etc., were delivered by the Rev. Hoskings, Commandant Walker, Adjutant Scotuey and Mr. \V. A. Ourteis, chairman of the Mangatoki Patriotic Committee. There is every reason to anticipate crowded floor at the Town Hull on' the 30th iust., when a dance in aid of the blind soldiers is being held under the auspices of the Returned Soldiers' Association. Mr. B. Taylor is secretary and with his committee are making every eifort to secure the comfort of patrons. At the last meeting of the Oddfe!' nine proposals were retvhed for membership. Visitors were present from , Midhirst lodge. At the close of business the was cleared for dancing, the music being supplied by Sister J. Collopy. A euchre tournament was held in aid of the hall improvement fund by the Forresters, the prizes being won 'by Foster and P. Adams, Rawhitiroa- For the dance that followed Miss 0. Rogc supplied the music and P.C.R. Bro. W. Hodgson officiated as MC. Mata Hall was also well filled 01. Wednesday evening, the attraction be ing a waltzing competition. Mr. J. Scoou was judge, the music being supplied by Mr. L. Foster. The award went to Miss Glentworth and H. Blackstock. At Kaponga on Wednesday a farewell social was tendered the Rev. W. Blar who is leaving for Petone. A fine musical programme was presented, those as sisting being Misses Evans and Pooley and Mr. Thomas. Eulogistic speeches were made touching on the work of the reverend gentleman and Mrs. Blair during their four years' stay in Kaponga by Messrs A. H. Guy, F. Cook, Harding ancj| Wickham. Amongst other things it was stated that the ehureh debt had been entirely extinguished and the last quarter showed a credit balance of £IOO. In replying the departing clergyman thanked the speakers for their generous appreciation of his efforts and the kindly reference to Mrs. Blair's work and trusted the cordial relations existing would continue with his successor, Rev. G. B\ Hintoti.
