THE COAL TROUBLE. Received April 27, 5.5 p.m. Sydney, April 27. The position of the New South Wales coal trouble is unchanged. The Federal Government has summoned the colliery proprietors to Melbourne to meet Mi'. Watt and discuss the position. RETURN OF WARSHIPS. Sydney, April 27. The first squadron of the returning Australian warships has reached Port Darwin. It consists of the cruiser Melbourne and six destroyers. Lieut.-Colonel Professor David has returned after service at the front since early in 191 G. He tells an inspiring story of the worth of his Australian mining corps. MUTINOUS PRISONER SHOT
Melbourne, April 27. While an armed guard was conveying eight military prisoners to the train for Sydney the prisoners attacked the guards and a desperate struggle followed. One man, Private Jemmett, on refusing to desist, was shot dead by the guard.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
