INFLUENZA EPIDEMIC.

LATEST AUSTRALIAN REPORT. Received April 27, 5,5 p.m. Sydney, April 27. At the week-end the influenza position was somewhat easier. There is a growing hope that the climax, so far as the Metropolitan area is concerned, may have been passed. Both the number of cases and the deaths have materially decreased. In the country, however, the disease continues to spread. Some towns are suffering severely. In Victoria, 'the position tends to improve, though the daily death roll is still considerable. In South Australia and Tasmania the disease continues to claim a number of victims. The Queensland authorities are taking ihe strictest precautions, and have, so far, kept the influenza confined to the visiting shipping.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
