"DIGGERS' KIDDIES."
THE CHILDREN'S FUTURE. , Now that so many men are returning the public are forcefully reminded of the great number of men who will never come back at all. The responsibility of looking after those whom "'Digger" leaves behind devolves upon every individual in New Zealand. One of the greatest problems in this connection is that of the education of the children whose, fathers have died in the Great War. The Trentham Dominion Scholarships Fund, which exists for the purpose of providing scholarships for the children, is being vigorously pushed forward by its promoters. Colonel H. R. Potter, C.M.G., is devoting a great deal of his time and energies to the cause. Dr. Riddell, who is so well known in Hawkes Bay and elsewhere for his enthusiastic interest in all the problems which concern the "Diggers," is also working hard' : for 'Digger's" kiddies. The scheme ia : supported by Dr. J. W. Anderson, Direc-, tor of Education for New Zealand, and Mftjor-General Sir A. W. Robin, K.C.M.G., C 3., who, together with Colonel H. r! Potter, C.M.G., are the trustees. A great many other influential gentlemen throughthe Dominion are using their best efforts for the furtherance of the scheme, and results, so far, are very satisfactory, the public responding very willingly to their appeal. The art union really offers some splendid chances of prizes which total in value about £6,300, including the first prize, valued at £I,OOO. There are over 170 prizes, and the shilling tickets, which are on sale everywhere in New Zealand, all have an equal chance of winning any or all of these. Fuller particulars appear in the advertisements.
