FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Nij;ht. Cabinet agreed to-day to the extension of the right to financial assitsance to soldiers who left the Dominion before the scheme was in operation, and who, being unaware of the scheme's existence, were unable to take advantage of it. CHARGE OF STEALING. Rotoraa, Last Night. To-day Hakaraia Temohi, a motordriver at Wairakei Hotel, was committed for rrial at Hamilton on a charge of stealing £S7 from the hotel safe between April 5 and S. The safe was locked on the sth, and oj.ened on the 7th, and the money was missed. Accused went to Taupo on the 14th aiid was flush of money. When he returned suspicion was aroused and he was arrested. THE BESSA. Wellington, Last Night. • Lloyd's surveyor examined the Bessa to-day. but discovered no further damage. The divers are making further examination of the hull. A court, presided over by the Norwegian Consul, heard evidence regarding the mishap and made certain recommendations, but could give no finding. . ' . WELLINGTON'S HOSPITAL ESTIMATES. Wellington, Last Night. The estimate presented to the Wellington Hospital and Charitable Aid Board to-day provides for a gross expenditure during the year 11)19-20 of £97,84/7, less estimated receipts other than subsidies and levies £28,430, leaving £09,417 to be found, Of this amount £38,115 is apportioned among the local authorities, while the amount due to the board by way of subsidies from the conoslidated fund is placed at £31,302. ■

RAILWAY APPEAL BOARD.

The North Island Railway Appeal Board met to-day. Mr. Hewitt, S.M, presided The first case was that of A. N. I,a<ngton, chief booking clerk at Umhton station, who appealed on the ground that, ho had not received the promotion to whioh he contended he was entitled. After hearing lengthy evidence the board reserved its decision. Cornelius O'Leary, permanent way inspector, Aramobo. appealed against being superseded. Asthc appeal was in effect against a previous decision of the board, tly? chairman sucrffested that both parties.should tales legal advice and submit to the board. On that understanding the case was adburned.
