WAITARA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

Waitara, April 24

Nominations for the Borough Council, Harbor Board, and Hospital Board closed today. There was only one nomination the Mayoralty, Mr. R. Morgan, the retiring Mayor, who was duly declared elected? There were three nominations for the position of councillors—Messrs W. R. Procter, E. C. Jones, and E. A. George—and they, with the Mayor, at present constitute the council. There were nine nominations for the Harbor Board, and, as only six members are required, a poll is necessitated. The names of the nominees are: Messrs P. J. Allen, T. Buchanan, E. A. George, R. Gribbon, ,1. Hine, jun., W. H. Nosworthy, A. W. Ogle, L. H. Sampson, and H. Spnrdle. There arc two candidates for the .position of member of the Taranaki'Hospital Board—Messrs R. Morgan (Waitara) and G. Young (Inglewood). There seems to be considerable interest taken in the Harbor Board election, but none at all in the borough. The apathy shown in this respect is very regrettable, and one cannot expect the town to prooress when its citizens show no interest in local affairs.

Mr. T. Taylor's son Tom, who went away with the Main Body and was in the second boat at the landing at Gallipoli, returns home to-morrow night. He has been away four and a half years, and we congratulate him on his safe return.
