A cable message states that Mr. Masaey and Sir Joseph Ward have returned to Paris from London.

Among the visitors to New Plymouth for the Easter holidays is Mr. J. W. C. List, of Lower Hutt. In response to a numerously signed requisition, Mr. E. Dixon has consented to be nominated for a further term for the Hawera Mayoralty. Mr. T. B. Crump, Mayor of Eltham, has announced his decision to seek reelection at the forthcoming municipal elections.

The Rev. G. B. Hinton, late of Waitara, is spending a few days in New Plymouth prior to taking up his ministry at Kaponga. He goes there on dayMany friends of Mr. A. Bissett, who at one time was sergeant in charge of the police force in Hawera (says the Star), will regret to hear that he died on Thursday rather suddenly. For some years he had been living in retirement at Wanganui, and had not been in very good health lately. The Rev. F. J. Parker, who lias been in charge of Manaia Methodist Circuit for some time, left on Tuesday for Otago. Prior to his departure he was entertained at a farewell social by the Church members and presented with a wellfilled purse. The Manaia troop of Boy Scouts presented Mr. Parker with a Scouts wristlet compass.

The death occurred on Friday at Marere Road, Kelburn, of Mr. Alfred Atkin9, F.R.1.8.A., of the firm of Messrs Atkins, Bacon, and Mitchell, architects. The late Mr. Atkins, who has been suffering, from pneumonia with complications, leaves a widow, but no family. Mr. Atkins was an active worker in the numerous organisations for the public welfare, and was a particularly energetic member of the Navy League.

Mr. Henry Thomas Salmon, fanner, of Whatoro, Northern Wairoa, died in the Auckland Hospital recently. The deceased was an old identity, having arrived in Auckland, with hia parents, nearly sixty years ago, when twelve years of age. He joined the armed constabulary at the age of 21 years. In 188U he was drafted into the police force. He was stationed for a long time at Masterton, Hawera, Foxton, and Manaia. He leaves a widow, five sons, and one daughter. One son was killed at the Battle of Messines.

The Wairarapa Daily Times of Wednesday last says: The Methodist school room was packed last night, when the members of the Methodist Church "farewelled" the Rev. J. A. Hosking, who has beeb transferred to Eltham. During the evening the members of the church presented Mr. Hosking with a purse of bank notes, while the choir made him a present of a walking stick. Eulogistic references were made to Mr. Hosking's qualities While in Masterton.

A deputation waited upon Mr. W. A. Collis on Saturday morning to ask him to allow himself to be nominated for a seat on the Borough Council. Mr, Collis, in his reply intimated that he had hoped to retire, but in view of the representations made and the important works to be undertaken by the Council he consented to standing, hoping that at the end of the next term a younger man would be found to take the place filled by him. The death took place at the Patea hospital, after a brief illness, of Mr, Michael Travers, at the ago of 74 years. He was born in County Down, Ireland, and came to the Dominion 57 years ago, and was one of the first to take part in the operations on the West Coast goldfields, where he was eminently successful. After leaving the goldfields the deceased came to Taranaki, where he was engaged in farming pursuits up to the time of his death. He is survived by a widow and two. sons and two daughters.
