HAWERA HOSPITAL MILK SUPPLY.
At the meeting of the Hawera Hospital Board last week (reports the Star) Mr. Winks remarked that he, Mr. Gilianders and Mr. Linn had gone carefully over the Board's new property and decided where they considered the beet place would be to place the caretaker's cottage and cowshed. He, Mr. Linn and Mr. Duffill had also visited the New Plymouth Board's farm, but he did not think they had anything to learn from that. The Building Committee then instructed Mr. Duffill to prepare plans, and these Mr. Duffill now placed before the Board.
The chairman intimated that he proposed to set up a Finance Committee, whose dutv it would be to go into the Board's whole finance, including the proposed farm buikhngs, the cost of running the farm, etc. They could then arrive at a decision as to what levy the Board would have to impose on local bodies for the enaning year. In reply to Mr. Marx the chairman said that the milk supply was now costing the Hospital Board £4OO a year, and the Board could well afford to add anther £IOO a year to secure an adequate supply of good, pure' milk. In connection with the farm the development of poultry and the growing of vegetables would "also be important considerations. This farm could scarcely be regarded as it farm, but rather as an adjunct to the proposed new hospital. After discussion it was resolved to formally acquaint the Minister of the Board's intention to provide its own milk supply, etc. and to request his assent thereto.
