WOMEN'S NATIONAL RESERVE.
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the New Plymouth branch of the Women's National Reserve was held at the Kawartia Bungalow on "Wednesday last. His Worship the Mayor (Mr. C. H. Burgess) presided. The "annual report presented by the secretary Miss Rundle) stated there were 104 active and 4 honorary membera, most of whom had assisted at the Red Cross Department of the Women's Patriotic rooms. The New Plymouth Girls' High" School had joined the reEerve as a junior branch. Since the inception of the Reserve 185 mothers and a few wives of soldiers have been supplied with badges. Quarterly "mothers' teas wereheld (liirmsr the year, until interrupted by the influenza epidemic. At these functions addresses had been given by the Hon. Sir James Allen, Archdeacon T'lvans, Rev! W- A. Sinclair, and Captain Hartnell- Thanks were expressed to the late junior branch (Chetwode School girls 1 for helping with afternoon tea and contributing itemß at those afternoons, also to the Whiteley Church officials for the free use of their hall, and to Mr. Hoffmann for the free use of a piano, to Mr. J. S. S- Medley for auditing the acounts, and to the press. The balancei sheet showed a credit of £4 17s. The president (Mrs. C. H. Burgess) moved the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, and in doing so explained the constitution and aims and objects of the Reserve. One of the things slie asked that the junior branch would do was to keep flowers placed on the graves of soldiers buried in New Plymouth. She especially wished that would be done on An/ae Day.
The motion was seconded and carried with acclamation. ELECTION OF OFFICERS.
The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mrs. C. H. Burgess; secretary and treasurer, Miss 0. S- Mills; committee, Mesdaraes iSumner, Eberlci, Collins, A. Alexander, J. Clarke, T. C. List, and Miss Sole. Apoloaies were-received from Miss C. A. Douglas and Mrs. E. A. Walker. With the conclusion of the meeting those present were entertained to a most enjoyable afternoon tea by Mrs. Burgess. Music, which was greatly appreciated, was given by Mrs. Wood (piano) and Miss V. Millar (violin). During the afternoon a deputation of women, headed by Miss Wade, asked Mr. C. H. Burgess to stand for the mayoralty again at the coming election.
