tHE SYDNEY TRAGEDY. Sydney, April 15. ; The man named Spencer who wa-\,' found in a dying condition 'with his head? battered, subsequently succumbed. Investigation of his papers disclose that his real name was Tucker and that he received regular remittances from England. It is believed that he was co» nected with a famous business house in London. The reason for the cruntf was not apparent. Quantities of jewellery and money in the room were not touched.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
THE MINERS TROUBLE. '•'■*■. Sydpey, April 15. A meeting of the Board of Delegates of the Miners' Federation at Newcastle accepted the tentative agreement arrived at by the Melbourne conference. The main clause of the agreement, which operates until December 1920, provides increases in wages 'and rates of pay and machinery for the settlement of all disputes.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. HOOKWORM DISEASE. Brisbane, April 15. Dr. Lambert, who is investigating the hookworm disease on behalf of the Rockfeller roundation, reports that 23 per cent, of the coastal population is infect- , ed and that the infection is extraordinarily high among the aboriginals, who act as carriers of the disease. The infection is having a progressive deteriorating effect on 40 per cent, of the school children and, if left to run for a few more generations, will mean a race of comparative imbeciles and physical degenerates, instead of a dominant white race in the north.—Aus.-N.Z.
