DISTRICT NEWS.
PUNGAREHU. I am pleased to report that this district hat>, now that the war has been brought to a successful close, got going again in the way of entertainments, socials and dances. Can it be wondered at eittier. Not only have we splendid facilities in the shape of a large recreation ground and hall, the floor of which is. hard to beat for dancing, but we have an energetic Hurt of workers who know just exactly what is required to keep the residents of the district in high spirits. Towards this end a special meeting was called of the Patriotic Committee, held in the hall on Tuesday evening, the Bth, Mr J. Campbell being in the chair It was resolved that the name "patriotic" bo dropped and the word "social" substituted, which now reads, Pungarehu Social Committee. Arrangements were aiso made for a welcome home social to be tendered returned soldier Pani Pue, on the 23rd inst,, an advertisement to that effect being published on thi! front page of this issue. Private Pani Pun, I believe, was the only Maori boy who volunteered from Parihaka, and, owing to that fact, it is to be hoped that all who can will make a special endeavor to be present that evening to do him honor.
