CLII-'TOX FOOTBALL CLUB. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Waitara, April 10. For the first time in four years the Clifton iootbal] Club held a meeting on Monday night. It was the largest meeting in the history of the club, over 50 persons being present. Mr. T. Buchanan in the chair. Thirty-two members joined the club during the evening. The chairman. Messrs Proctor, Noaworthy, and D. George were appointed a subcommittee to decide on the best way to honor those who had fallen and those who had returned from the war. Mr. K. B. Fitssell, of Lepperton, attended the meeting. He said there were about ufi men at Lepperton who wished to play lor Clifton, but to practise together and send out a team of their own.

It was decided to accept the main conditions, but that Lepperton must eonsent to allow their men to be taken for a team in a higher grade, if necessary. |t vvas decided to nominate a senior, first junior, and two second junior teams. The following officers were elected: President, Mr. W. T. Jennings, M.P.; vice-presidents, Messrs 11. Tate and D. (>eoige; club captain, 0. George; committee, Messrs J. Caw, H. & Abbott, W Procter, A. Lash, A. Goodwin, \V. Telfar, S. George; select: t ,'or senior team, H. L.' Abbott; for firsi juniors, D. George; selector for second juniors left overUnion delegate, T. Buchanan; hon. sec.', H. Spurdle, assisted by H. Brabant; auditor, L. H. Sampson. The subscription was fixed at 5s for non-players and Gd for players. It was resolved that the Taranaki Kugby Union be asked to re-form the Referees' Association, and that clubs be invited to send in names of men willin" to act as referees. It waR decided to hold i social once a 'fortnight. Mr. \\. Jury, who is leaving Waitara, was made a life member of the club He presented a football. BOROUGH COUNCIL. At the last meeting of the present council, held last niuht, at which all the members were present with the exception of Mr. R. Kendrick, three members were elected for the newly-formed Waitara V ire Board. Four names were put m, and Messrs W. It. Procter, H. Spurule, and \Y. F. Jenkins were elected by ballot. It was decided to have a cleaning-up week, householders to be circularised to put all rubbish in accessible places by t o clock on Monday morning next, when the borough drays will call and collect. This should result in a cleaning up of the borough, especially in the business area.

A letter from the Clifton County Council asking the Borough Council, as the Clifton county are contributing to tlie cost of repairs to the bridge and are largely interested in it, to proceed with the repairs as speedily as possible. The letter was received.

The electrical engineer asked to be allowed to spend up to £3O in prospecting the Waitiira river in connection with a hydro-electric scheme. Cr. Brabant said lie was strongly opposed to spending any money in this connection, as the scheme was too costly for the borough to tackle. It was decided to do nothing in the matter.

Mi\ H. Spurdle, on bahalf of the Clifton lootball Club, made application for the use of the Camp Reserve for football practice and matches. It was decided to gue permission to use the grounds on the usual conditions, and that all cattle which had-been grazing there were to be removed by April 30. The question of cattle strayinir on the streets again cropped up, and" it ivas decided to instruct Mr. Fear to summon ail persons whose stock were found wandenng on the roads

His Worship tendered his thanks to the council at this, their last meeting, tor the assistance given and courtcsv shown to him during his term of office, trs. Spurdle, Dlanclmrd, and Brabant intimated that they were not seeking re-election, and severally tendered their hanks to the Mayor and councillors for he courtesy shown them during; their enn of office. Crs. Jones and Procter also expressed their thanks for the courtesy shown them, and hoped that the people of Waitara would take an interest in the welfare of the town by electiii" a good council for the next terra.
