PLUNKET SOCIETY.

ANNUAL MEETING

The armu„. meeting oi the above Society was held at the Soldiers' Club on Tuesday night when the first annual report was presented, wherein reference ivas made to the hard struggle which the Committee, *with Mrs. Burgess as president, had made to have a Plunket nurse appointed here, the arrival of Nurse Williams not taking place until a yefir after the meeting at which it was decided to maice another attempt to obtain a nurse. The report fully detailed the work of the Society during the year, including the raising of £337 for a car to be used by the nurse, also to the establishment oi a creche during the epidemic, 19 babies being admitted, ind the committee tendered their heartfelt thanks to the Plunket nurse for so splendidly rendering such a service to the State. Thanks were also expressed to all who had assisted in the Society's work, and subscribers were urged to increase their subscriptions owing to (he increased expenses, also to induce others to subscribe 5s a year. The Plunket nurse's report was also read giving a summary of the work done since taking up her duties, and making clear the aim and object of that 'work —the natural feeding of babies, with a view tp conserving the health and strength of the rising generation. The following statistics were given Adults advised 264, cases of books 98, mothers taught to make milk 08, visits to homes 1760, adults' visits to rooms 1005, babies' visits to rooms 714. Appreciation was expressed for the provision of the motor car The balance sheet showed the receipts for the year to be £689 Is a iod and the balance at 'the bank £457 19s 7d.
