WAR PRECAUTIONS ACT.
A BRISBANE PROTEST. (DISGRACEFUL SCENES. Brisbane, March 24. There were disgraceful scenes during a procession in the streets from the Trades' Hall to the Domain, where a meeting of protest against the continuance of the War Precautions Act was held. There were many conflicts between the processionists and the police, the lattei endeavoring to suppress the carrying flags. When the Domain was reached the procession was confronted by a strong "body of mounted police, but (■was eventually allowed to enter. ■I During the night members of the projceesion attempted to hold a meeting, Ibnt a large body of returned soldiers larrived and threatened to throw the speakers into the river and the meeting was abandoned As the majority of the agitators were foreigners,, the soldiers proceeded to the Russian Association's rooms. When the soldiers were approaching three shots weve fired from the rooms, and, after a detective had informed the demonstrators that the agitators were armed and would light to a finish, the gatherfaff dispersed.—Aus.-N.Z.
