SUICIDE AT HAWERA.
A MAN HANGS HIMSELF. A case of suicide was reported to the police on Thursday evening, and enquiries elicited the fact that a well-known Hawera man, named George Gray, a plumber, working ,for Mr Hay ton, had committed suicide bv hanging himself at Mr A. T- Wills' place. The deceased was working there all day Thursday, doing some plumbing work about the house. He went about liia work in his usual manner, and about 1 o'clock in the afternoon looked into the house to see the time, as he had <lone on many occasions previously. This was the last time he was seen alive- At "> pm, when he did not return to Hayton's shop, Mr Hayton made inquiries, and found that his tools, coat and bicycle were still at Mr Wills' house. A =carch was then made and about eight o'clock Mr Will 9 found the body hanging- by the neck from a rope fastened to a tree in a gully about four chains away from the house. Mr Wills immediately out down the body, which was then stiff, and life apparently extinct. He telephoned at -once to the police and Constiibles Xuttall and "Willetts went nut and secured the services of Dr Menhie, who pronounced life extinct. An examination made later showed that the neck had been broken, and there was a cut wound on the calf of the leg that ha<\ bled freely. Deceased w»3 a married man with four children, and lived with his wife in Caledonia .street- He was of a quiet disposition, and there are apparently no reasons whatever for the rash act. -Star.
