THE PEACE CONFERENCE.

JAPAN'S DEMANDS, ■ENFORCING LEAGUE'S DECISION. Paris, March 19. Japan submitted an amendment to the Supreme Council asking for equal rights and just treatment of aliens within their borders who are nationals of States which are members of the league. The Commission of the International Bureau is inviting the League of Nations to enforce its decisions. Paris reports indicate that the peace terms prevent the surreptitious training ">f a large German army and limit armament production. The fleet will consist of six battleships, six light cruisers, twelve destroyers, twelve torpedoers, with a personnel of 13,<)00.—Aus.-N.JS. Cable Assn. AUSTRALIAN EXCLUSION OF JAPANESE. Paris, March 20. The Australian delegates said that it was impossible for the British Dominions to agree to the Japanese demand for equality of treatment for all nationalities. The Australian desire was to build up an all-British population of 15 millions at the earliest possible moment. If they opened the door to Asiatic immigration it meant that they would close it to Europeans. The Canadian delegates agreed with this view.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
