BUSH FIRES.

IN DANNEVIRKE DISTRICT. Dauuevirke, March 18. Bush fires are raging in the Tei'ehuuga and Ruaroa district. The heavy gale has now changed its direction and is blowing the flames towards the wooded country. The settlers immediately threatened are Messrs Edlin, Harris, Stanfield, Sharplin, Cubbit, McLean, and Giesen. Details are difficult to obtain. The settlers have been fire-lighting all night. Dannevirke, Last Night. The gale has died down and rain is falling. The fires are thought to be under control. Heavy damage has been caused to cowsheds and stacks. The settlers aro having great difficulty in getting stock out of the burning area. None of 1 the dwelling-houses have yet been burned, but several are seriously threatened, and families have quitted. Some of the small settlers are very heavily hit. Fires are said to be raging in the coast district, especially at Horoeka, but no definite details ore to hand from that quarter.
