FREEZING WORKS STRIKE ENDED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wairoa, March 15. The Freezing works strike has ended, the men agreeing to accept Is 9d per hour. HYDRO-ELECTRIC POWER Wairoa, March 15. The County Council yesterday decided, to apply to the Government for permission to harness Waikaremoana for. electrical power, also inviting local todies on the East Coast, Napier and Gisborno to call a conference with the view to all joining in. FARMERS AND POLITICS. Hamilton, March 15. At a meeting of the executive of the Waikato sub-provincial district Farmers' Union, it was resolved to take steps to join the Farmers' Political Party. Keen dissatisfaction was expressed at the state of politics at present, and the necessity for farmers taking- action to saieguard their interests was emphasised. Politicians were described as vacillating and asleep. Objection was taken to the fixing of prices by the Government, which was characterised as unsatisfactory for all. It was resolved to formulate a platform to submit to the nert meeting. A SECRETARY CONVICTED. Auckland, March 15. In the Supreme Court Stephen Airy, secretary of the Hokianga Dairy Company, was sentenced to threa years" probation, and ordered to pay £ls towards the costs. Accused was tried three times on charges of embezzlement and falsifying the company's books. Two jurors disagreed, and the third jury found him guilty of falsification with a recommendation to mercy. CATTLE STEALER FINES. Hamilton, March 15.. Iu the Supreme Court Hatrick Lowry, an elderly man, charged with stealing cattle at Kaimai, was fined £SO.
