HIGH FREIGHTS.
COMPLAINTS BY EXPORTERS.
By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, March 14.
The Doninicn says that considerable dissatisfaction is felt by exporters regarding the maintenance of the high freights between Now Zealand and Britain. Freights are still controlled by the Imperial authorities, who insist that large reductions cannot be made at th« present time, but Atlantic freights have been reduced very substantially and New Zealand shippers suggest that there should be at least a corresponding reduction of freights in the Aijstralafeian trade.
It is difficult to get exact information regarding the conditions that govern freights, but it appears from this end that American trada is being encouraged at the expense of New Zealand an 4 Australian trad*. The Imperial Board of Trade, as indicated in the cables, is extremely anxious to assist British manufacturers tc resume their old trade relations and pain new, hut it seems to consider that tht Dominion markets are comparatively secure and that they need not be cultivated so assiduously as the Allied, neutral and markets. A Xew Zenland export trader states that he considers the New Zealand trprfers ara bein<j treated quite unfairly. Tliev are being charged exceedingly high freights, and it looks as if the money was lHnpr lnecl by the Imperial authorities to provide low freights on the Atlantic.
