FRENCH WARSHIP.
ASHORE NEAR PAPEETE. % By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin March 11. The Union Company has received wifeless advice that the small French warship Kersaint went ashore recently on a- reef at Morrea Island, opposite Papeete- flarbor. When the mail steamer Paloona, bound from Wellington to San Franeiscoj was detained at Papeete, assisting in the attempt to tow the Kersaint off. Tht Flora, loaded with fruit for Auckland was also detained at Papeete, to assist in salvage work. Latest advices state that the attempts to salvage the Kersaint have so far been unsuccessful. The Paloona resumed her voyage ou Marshland the Flora left Papeete on March' 9 for Auckland direct.
