W Junes. The atte.nda.nce of Ngaere folk at the church was very large, the nuptial knot being tied by the Rev. R. If Hobday, of E'tbam. The l/ride, who was given away by her father, was dressed in white silk, with cream sash, whilst the bridal bououet was of Toses and marencrites. Misf.es V. .Tames and R. GENERAL Train traffic continues very heavy. Yesterday the goods train from Hawera to Stratford was very long and weighty, over 400 tons, and required two engines to get to Stratford, Naturally tin) time-table is frequently punctured, despite the efl'orts of the railway officials to run to time From inquiries made there is every possibility of the Mayors' iwitest beins: narrowed down to two candidates — the present Mayor (Mr- J. "V. McMillan) and the ex-Mayor (Mr. J. W. Boon). Cr. J. H. Thompson's name h»s also been mentioned, but our senior 'otHineillor has not made his decision yet, «nd, for that matter. Mr. McMillan. h»s also not decided whether lie will seek a further terrrt of office. I At th» Hospital Board meeting this
morning a little discussion occurred over a claim for maintenance, of indigent children. In one instance a claim amounting to over £IOO was made on behalf of 5 children, their father being executed for the murder of the mother. It was explained that ihe parents at one period resided in the Whangamomona district, and then removed to Wariganui. but their domicile in the latter place had not been of sufficient duration Wore the tragedy happened to make thorn a charge, on the Wanganni district: hence the claim on the Stratford Hoard. It was resolved to meet the charge, but the secretary was instructed te point, out to the Department, that these charges should he made on the Stat* rather than on the hospital district. Mr. Pole was particularly strong on this point, indicating that this was an unjust charge on the ratepayers here Members of the Oddfellows' Order attended in large numbers at Midliirst last evening, the occasion being a visit of the district officers, P.O.M- Bro. Roberts and C.S. Bro. Fapps. Bro- R. G-. Steer w.i= in the chair, and the visitors, including niemb?rs from Stratford and Eltham, were welcomed by PP.G.M. Bro.
