Pope's many friends are indeed pleased to see him back in harness again after his severe attack of enzaMr. Honeyfield and family will receive many expressions of sympathy from their numerous friends at the unexpected decease of husband and father. The late Mr. John Honeyfield was an old and much respected farmer of the real, good, solid, old school, and justly earned the respect of all those who had the fortune to he a friend. Mr. Honeyfield, who suffered from, heart trouble, went to bed on Saturday evening apparently in his usual state of health, and passed away quietly during his sleep. The funeral takes place at 1.30 p.m. to-day. A well-attended meeting of the Uruti Beach Picnic Club vras held in the hall at TJrenui on Saturday evening, Mr. W Corcoran presiding. The secretary reported having received a permit to hold the meeting on Thursday next/that data having to be fixed immediately, owing to the fact that there would be no suitable tide again until the end of April, which would be too lata. The secretary's act'on in fixing the day was approvedA programme, consisting of eight evunts, was drawn up and approved. Various officials and sub-committees were appointed for the purpose of carrying out the day's function- The programme cueists of six open races, indns'tve ot ine Cup, a trot and one local race, which should provide excellent sport for the day. It is expected there will be competitors from as far as Awakino and N T ew Plymouth, so that there should be nothing wanting in the size of the fields. The beach almost every day is the scene of busy training operations, an many as twenty horses being in work at one time. The first, race is fixed for 11 a.m., so is to get. the programme" through" on the tide. Tho committee deserve that their efforts be a success. All entries are post entries. The country round the district is looking exceedingly well just now, though a night's rain would he very acceptable The roads aro beginning to show the effects of the long spell of dry weather, and the very large amount of 'sheep traffic that has passed over it during the past couple of months.
