PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE.

DISPOSAL OP HINDS. The Plymouth Patriotic Committee met on Friday evening. The Mayor (Mr. C. H. Burgess) presided, and there were also present: Mrs- C. H. Burgess, Messrs W. J. Ohaney (deputy-chairman), 0. Carter, J. Hoskin, W- A. Collis, J. R. Hill, G. Fraser, P. Jackson, J. Paton (hon. treasurer) and L. M. Monteath (hon. secretary). Regarding the funds held by the committee, it was reported that the baknco in hand was about £3OO The Mayor said it had been intended to decide at this meeting what the policy of the committee should be for the future, but he had been unaible, owing to pressure of his duties during the week to consult the other members as he had desired. The money could be spent on almost anything that was for the soldiers. He thought they might dispose of their money by providing "little etceteras" wherever there were ?oldier3 in the Dominion requiring hospital treatment. It was not a question of spending the money on Taranaki men only; men from all -parts of the Dominion had been lighting for us just as muhc as for anyone else. His Worship remarked that the committee did not require to get rid of it« funds too rapidly, for in that case there wwild soon not be sufficient to provide for the soldiers in the hospital, to carry on such work which would require attention for a long time to come. Apart from the £3OO or so in hand, something would come from the Pierrots at the end of the month, when they concluded their effort. Mr. issued a warning against editing the idea that the war was over and everything was done, and he spoke of the terrinle afflictions of some of the soldiers undergoing treatment at flotorua and other places. The committee voted £5 a month for •providing refreshments to soldiern at Rotorua! £SO to the Soldiers' Chih (it was mentioned that the Women's PaTiriotic Committee had allocated £SO of their money sfrnflarlv), £2O to the Citizens' Band to provide entertainment for returned and returning soldiers, and £lO to provide amusement for soldiers in aceordanca with a suggestion by Mrs Bursess. No further action regarding future policy was taken at the meeting.
