THE PEACE CONFERENCE.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE WAR. Paris, March 8. The commission set up to discover the responsibility for the war finds moral responsibility attaching to a number of persons, and a list of names is given about which tho evidence is conclusive, but the commission is unable to find a precedent for their legal responsibility.— Aus. N.Z. Cable Assoc.

INDEMNITY FOR BRITAIN. London, March 5. In the House of Commons Mr. Bonar Law said the statement, that Britain would refrain from making a money claim on the Germans did not in the least represent the Government's intentions. There was not a shadow of foundation for the statement. Lord Milner was very strong in his desire to make Germany pay, though he expressed the opinion that some of the extreme figures were unattainable. There has been no change in the British policy: "We mean to get what we can towards the relief of the terrible burden lying ou the country."

BELGIAN CLAIMS.' London, March 5. The Commission on Belgian Affairs has decided in favor of the abrogation of the treaty of 1839. This will permit the opening of the territorial problem between Belgium and Holland, The Belgians contend that control over Limburg, Luxembourg, and Malmedy is necessary for Belgium's defence. Also the possession of Zeeland and Dutch Flanders would ensure the provisioning of Antwerp. Holland should receive in exchange the guelders on the left bank of the Ems,* Eastern Frieland, -with the months of the Ems and Emden. The commission decided that as Holland was a neutral the council had no authority to settle the Scheldt and Limburg questions unless Holland desired to place them before the conference.—Aus. N.Z. Cable Assoc.
