WAITARA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Lovers of good singing are promised a r«e treat on the occasion of Mademoiselle Antonia Dolores' visit to Waitara. Mademoiselle Dolores is a world renowned singer, and it is a great honor to have her visit Waitara. Some indignation was felt in local circles when a report was circulated that the Northern S.S. Co. was increasing the price of freights to Waitara and not raising them to New Plymouth. The latter part of the statement is wrong, the freight being raised to both places! The liner Matatua was expected to resume her loading here on Tuesday. She left the roadstead to go to Wariganui, as another liner is expected there this week, and it would have been inconvenient to have them both there at the same time.

An inquest was held in Waitara on Tuesday last to inquire into the circumstances attending the death of an old Maori woman named Hamina te Kati, who was burned to death in her whare 011 Saturday night. It was supposed that a kerosene lamp which she was in the habit of using had capsized and ignited the whare; but at the inquest nothtos was adduced as to the origin of the fire. A verdict of 'Vcidenfly burned to death" wrs returned by the jury. The young Indies of Waitara are holding a dance in aid of the Seaside Improvement funds.
