MOA ROAD BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING The ordinary meeting of the Moa iioad Board was held at Inglewood on Saturday, when there were present: Messrs A. Corkill (chairman), R. Stewart, D. Todd, J. H. Lyon, J. S. Bowler, J. M. Hair, J. B. Simpson and J. Hunter. The chairman extended a welcome to Mr J. M. Hair on his return to the Board. , EVERETT ROAD. The chairman reported that a meeting had been called of the Committee and the contractor and engineer (Mr Lopdell) to discuss matters in connection with the Everett Road bridge, but only another member of the committee and himself had met. They had, however, called tenders for the necessary gravel and metal. Some discussion took place over constructing the bridge on a percentage basis, several members being in favor of the Board purchasing its own plant. It was, however, decided not to alter the arrangement in the present case. Regarding the application for an additional subsidy, the chairman stated that he had arranged to take the Government Engineer over the road. OVERSEER'S REPORT. The overseer (Mr R. C. Gray) reported that crushing, rolling and blinding had been completed on the Kaimata Road South, 406 yards being crushed and 31 chains rolled, necessary maintenance metal had been dumped, nine chains were scarified and rolled, 1$ chains on the unmetalled portion also being metalled. Nine 20 inch pipes had been set in on the Mana Road, nine 24 inch and nine 12 inch pipes set in on the Ratapiko Road. These two roads were in a very bad order and required a considerable amount of attention. Fifty chains had been raked in, rolled and blinded on the Mangatea road. Necessary blinding had been carted and dumped along the unrolled portion of the road. The plant was at present held up owing to the engine driver meeting with an accident. As soon as the Mangatea road was completed, the plant proceeds to Ratapiko, where crushing operations would commence. The teams were at present hauling boulders for the Ratapiko crushing depot. Nine 18 inch pipes had been delivered to the Everett road and a similar quantity to the Motukawa road. During the month 2S pipes had been made and 210 pipes were now on hand. The report was adopted.

GENERAL. Colin Holmes wrote complaining of the state of the Surrey road. From '!>- riki to the junction of the Derby road, the road was excellent, save for half a mile which ia in a dreadful state, and made their property at the top end of (he road almost inaccessible, especially in the winter.—The overseer is to report on the matter, with a view to work being done when the plant is in the district. The Valuer General notified that it would not be practicable to have a revaluation of the Moa Road District this year. It would be undesirable for obvious reasons to revalue only a small portion of the Taranaki County. The revaluation of the whole County would come under consideration when the valuation work for the rating period 19201921 was under consideration. Mr Mackinder's offer to sell land at the rate of £25 per acre for deviation at Waltui wa9 accepted, Mr Mackinder to do the fencing. Mr C. J. Allermane drew attention to a bad piece at the top end of the Windsor road from the present metal downwards. Mr Todd stated that he had given instructions for the work to be done. —Action approved. Accounts amounting to £432 78 6d ."were passed for payment.
