DISTRICT NEWS.

WHANGAMOMONA. (From Our Own Correspondent). The annual show and industrial exhibition was held on Saturday, January 2li. Favored by glorious weather there was a large attendance. The show was formally opened by Mr. W. A. County chairman, v,-ho congratulated the promoters on their success, and on the excellent display in spite of the backwardness of the season, proving that the climate was favorable to most classes of farming. He strongly advised those present to have faith in the future of the district, but those who took up tha land must understand farming methods suitable to the claas of country. As a settler of 40 years standing lie was convinced that success was the more certain if a settler made his farm his home, giving it his every attention and the district his interest. Mr. McK. Morrison, of Stratford, considered the flowers in particular would be a credit to any show in the country. He called attention to the educational value of the school exhibits, particularly the agricultural. If any farmer present doubted the value of fertilisers let him examine the Whangamomona display which showed the various yields per acre between fertilised and unfertilised crops. Norrie, Presbyterian minister, was farewelled and presented with a set of entree dishes, a case of fish knives and forks and a substantial cheque. Mr. T. Taylor made the presentation on behalf of friends in the district and Mr. Norrie suitably responded.
