QUESTION OF SUPERINTENDENT. QUARANTINE OF VESSELS. By Telegraph. —P/esa Association. Wellington, Lust night. At the meeting of the Hospital .Board to-day a letter was received irom iiir Robert Stout respecting the appointment oi the superintendent oi the Wellington Hospital. The writer asoed if the medical inen with ine military torcoa were to be allowed time to apply, ami if any arrangements had been made for applications to lie lodged with the High Commissioner in London. Luke moved that an euiltavnr should be made to arrive at an arvanaemeiit. with the Director General of Medical Services for the release from military ;luty of any doctor who might be chosen. The Rev. Dr. Elliott seconded. He thought they should give preference to men who ha'l served their country. The chairman said that unless a superintendent were obtained quickly, a difficulty reonc.'tinjr the hospital might arise. When the present superintendent left the hospital it would he in the care of a junior doctor unless Dr Barclay's successor was soon available, Mr Luke's motion was carried.
Doctors Fitzgerald and Paterson hive nlso resigned their positions on the hospital staff, and the hoard to-day accepted their resignations with regret. Tt was reported that n letter had been sent to the Minister of Public Health asking if the period for the quarantine of ves«eN arriving from infected port" could be further extended, so that at least seven ilavs should ehy.-e from the day of the vessel leaving uic- infected port to a clearance of the same It was stated also that the chairman had received a letter from the president of local Medical Association strongly favoring the extension of quarantine to seven' clear days.
