At a largely attended public meeting last night the Mayor presiding, the School Committee's, action in accepting the. offer of a second piano of German manufacture was. discussed. At the conclusion the committee's action was endorsed, but it was urged to substitute a British instrument if the difference in price is subscribed by the public as promised by two committee-men. A petition culling upon the chairman of the committer to resign was not endorsed and the chairman of the Wan-' ganui Education Board was asked to unreservedly withdraw hia statements in which he said he would prefer to see an indecent picture in a school to a German piano, or to resign his posiiton.
