THE LIQUOR REFERENDUM. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last night. the Presbyterian Assembly tonight tiie report of tiie temperance committee was submitted. The committee's deliverance included the following: That the Assembly express its appreciation of Parliament having granted a referendum on the National Efficiency Board's proposal; that all ministers, office bearers .and members of our church bo urged to use their utmost endeavor to secure the carrying of national prohibition on April lOtli; tliat the committee be authorised to isssue a manifesto to l)e read in all our churches; that Sunday, March 30th, be appointed a day of prayer for Sod's guidance and blessing on the present prohibition campaign; that the Assembly declares that it regards the issue of national ownership of the liquor trade as a calamitous proposal, which would in no wise lessen the worst evils connected with tie use of alcohol as a beverage.
