PROHIBITED FROM LANDING.
STATEMENT BY SIR F. BELL. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last night. The Attorney-general issued an order recently prohibiting the landing in New Zealand of two men who reached ft l)o-[ minion port from Australia. Su!bsequently Messrs Glover and Roberts, representing the watersiders, waited upon the Minister for an explanation. Cis Bell states he is satisfied that the persons in question are of siich a character that their presence in New Zealand woulrl he injurious to public safety. He had arrived at that conclusion upon information which was satisfactory to him. He could not disclose the information upon which he acted. It was one of most important dements of public policy and security that sources of information, whether of the Government or the police, were absolutely sacred. The Minister added that nobody hated more than he did the exercise of power of the kind, but in certain instances the power should <^i?t.
