CHEESE IN STORE.
AFFECTED BY CHEESE MITE. By Telegraph. —Press Association, Wellington, Feb. 21. Owing to tne fact that it has been so long awaiting shipment, the bulk of the cheese in store in Wellington and elsewhere has become infected with cheesemite. The cheese mite separated is hardly distinguishable by the naked eye, but together it forms a black dust. Although it does not greatly deteriorate the value of the cheese, it makes cheese very unpleasant to handle The mite affects the eyes and causes skin irritation, which may last for three weeks or more.
Naturally, the appearance of the mite has given the watersiders some concern, and a report regarding it was presented to a, special meeting of the Wellington Union held last night. Investigation regarding the mite, and experiments in its destruction are now being carried out The Union decided to urge further <>".empts at eradication.
