TAUMARUNUI REQUIREMENTS.
By Telegraph.—Press Association. Taumarunui, f.aat night. The Minister of Public Works and Mr W. T. Jennings. M.P., visited Taumarunni on Friday, where several important matters were brought under notice of the Minister, who said the only drawback on public works now was the want of men. He could put thousands of men on if they could be got. He did not favor linking up the national highway between Taumarunui and Te Kuiti, and Raurimu and the Waimarino till the backblocks roads had more attention. but when his engineer returned from the war be would liave a survey and estimate of cost prepared of portions of the national highways in questionThe borough council asked for a sub sidy of ten shilling in the pound for the main road through the town, on which they ars spending £12,000. As the road passed through all nativeowned properties, the council considered it as the Crown's duty to contribute The Minister promised to bring the matter before Cabinet. The Minister also stated he would put another 150 men on Okahukura tunnel works if available The Minister left on Saturday for tho south.
