BACK FROM THE WAR.

ARRIVAL OF MEN AT NEW PLYMOUTH. A number of Taranaki men who recently returned to New Zealand from active service reached New Plymouth by Saturday night's mail train. There was a large crowd at the railway station, and though the train was nearly an hour behind schedule time the proceedings were enlivened by selections played by the Citizens' Band. The big "Welcome" sign had been hung up over tlio platform, and representatives of the Patriotic Committee were present to give the men a welcome on behalf of the citizens. The band played "Home, Sweet Home" as the train steamed alongside the platform. Following is the list of men who comprised the draft: A. Smith, C. W. Warifc, Corporal W. M. Whittaker, B. Martiss, Corporal L. D. Oliver, Lance-Corporal A. L. Humphries, A. Johnson, P. Langlcy, J. Donaldson, W. H. Cameron, F. W. Charteris, A. D. Coombe, Lance-Corporal P. D. Willing (Now Plymouth), C. C. H. Shirley, W. l.'cntelow, P. A. Cook (Oaonui), D. Gray (Okato), L. C. Pes Forges (Opumike), S. W. Martin (Tarurutangi), J. ('ran (Kaponga). The Salvation Army Band turned out in full strength oil Saturday evening to welcome back Private A. Smith, who has just returned from the front, and who was made a prisoner of war by the Germans. Being a prominent member of the band, he was given a loyal welcome home, the band escorting him to his parents' home, Devon Street West, after which a reception took place by the band and personal friends of the returned soldier. Speeches were made by Commandant Rowlands and Messrs. Rodi, Flintoff, Miss Trim and Mrs. Smith, representing both sexes of the corps. Supper was provided and tiie benediction concluded the proceedings. Welcome-home meetings were held on Sunday, the attendances being large, and many being glad to grip the hand of the one who has done his duty.
