S.M. COURT. j (From Our Own Correspondent.) Inglewood, Feb. 21. A sitting of the S.M. Court wa3 held here to-day, iMr A. Crooke, S.M., presiding. A VALUELESS CHEQUE. A young man named Logan Braud Gilbert pleaded guilty to a charge of issuing a valueless clic-que at Xk'W Plymouth on December -fith. umscawie Longbottom stated that accused bought a blank cheque at Inglewood for 2d. He undo it out for £1 payable to Kwau Taylor and signed by N. J. Fleming on the Bank of New South Wtiles. He then went, to New Plymouth and consulted Dr. McClelaud, whom lie paid lA Gd, receiving 12s Cd change. There were races at New Plymouth on that day and he probably wanted money to go to the races. There were no previous eonvietinns. The Magistrate said that it looked like a deliberate attempt to defraud. Accused was convicted and fined £2 costs 7s. DISTURBING AN ENTERTAINMENT. A returned soldier named Ernest Knoffloek pleaded guilty to a charge of disturbing a public entertainment at Inglewood. Consta bio Longbottom stated that the accused, who was a returned soldier with 3y 2 years service, had gone to an entertainment in a uruuken condition and had continually disturbed the proceedings Finally he went outside and when the Marseillaise was played sang out •'Cut it out! We've had enough of that during the last three years." He also made other remarks. Accused was of German parentage, born in New Zealand. To the Magistrate: Accused statea that he would not take out a prohibition order as he could keep off if he liked. The Magistrate: Well if you can and don't, you will only have yourself to blame. Constable Longbottom stated that accused had been convicted in Wellington last month of drunkenness and obscene language. Accused was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence within six months. BREACH OF BY-LAWS. J. Attley, wh.i did not appear, was lined 10s and costs 7s for riding a motor cycle without lights at night.
