SHORTAGE OF FOOD.
'A WORKERS' MEETING. , Received Feb. 19, 11.30 p.m. London, Feb. 17. British correspondents at Cologne refer to a great meeting of 6000 workers to consider the shortage of food and unemployment. The speakers declared that the working class had been incapable of work Bince the summer of 1916, owing to underfeeding. The situation is becoming worse daily. The families' weekly supply of tea is exhausted at a single meal, owing to the weagreness of the ration. The quality of the potato crop is poor. The meeting appointed a delegation to the British military governor, who sympathetically heard them, and promised help.—-Aus. and N.Z. Cable Association. PROTECTING THE KAISER. London, Feb. 18. Prince Henry's letter requesting Hindenburg to accept the presidency of the leag.j for the Kaiser's personal safety says: ''The shameless demand that i Kaiser shall be delivered to his enemies for execution is deeply humiliating and an insult to Germany.
