INFLUENZA EPIDEMIC.
AUSTRALIAN EPIDEMIC GROWING. Melbourne, Feb. 12. There were ! 182 fresh cases of influenza reported to day and 22 deaths, 'making a total of 1916 infected and 232 deaths. The Government has closed all hotels -within a radius of fifteen miles of the city. The (Federal Government haa ignored appeals from Kew South Wales and continues to grant shore leave to returning New South Wales troops. Mr Watt has issued a final appeal to the State Governments to unite the Commonwealth in uniform, acceptable measures to prevent the spread of the epidemic. Mr Bower has promised a deputation from the Labor Party to place before Cabinet proposals for a moratorium and mobilisation of the medical profession.—Aus.-NZ. Cable Assn. Sydney, Feb. 12. Tie Watersiders' Federation refuses to work ships coming from infected States unless it is granted double rates of pay. Twenty-two new influenza cases, in. chiding five from Corowa, are reported. Thi» men from the Argyllshire have agreed to remain in quarantine at the Cricket Ground for three days. The Government has strongly pro- • tested to the Federal Government against allowing New South Wales troops ashore at Melbourne. PANIC IN QUEENSLAND. Brisbane, Feb. 12, , The State Government has issued regulations prohibiting vessels which have not undergone proper quarantine berthing at the city wharves The Cestor, with 1100 troops on board, has arrived, but the Government has refused to supply a pilot stating that it will give no facilities towards the landing of troops.
