AWAKINO, if (Srom Our Own Correspondent,!) The annual meeting of the Awakuio Collie Club was held in the local hall on the lbt inat, and was w«ii attended by the members of the club. Mr W. D. Thomson (patron) prided. The balance siuet disclosed a credit Uiiance of £53 after providing iSH) lor the V'.M.CA. and miner donations from results of previous trials. The club during the war period has donated ofer £320 to the various patriotic furids. la obtaining such good results the club fully recognises that it would have been impossible of achievement had they not been generously supported by their friends. Mr W. D. Thomson was reelected patron and Mr J. Harrison, presi- ' "V-Mr B. Lett secretary and Mr M. .Miuo-it assistant secretary; committee:Messrs G. Lake, E. Paynter, K- Black, A. L. Bignell, J. McNeice, J. Innis, A. Sole, I. Cummings, G. Bradbury and McNaier. Mr A- L. Bignell was elected ground marshal, Mr Cross timekeeper, Mr Paynter sheep steward, and Mr 10 Blr.ck, dog steward. Messrs G. Lake, J. McNeice, J- Innis and K. Black were reelected as a committee to take charge of the club's social functions which they so ably carried out last year, with the generous assistance of the ladies of the district and other friends. It was unanimously decided that the loth annual trials should be held on the dateß allotted by the association (April •2nd and 3rd), and that a concert be ar. ranged for the first night and a grand ball on the second, and also that SO per cent, of the nett profits be devoted to the local fallen Soldiers' Mi.morial fund, the idea being to purchase a suitable area of land iu the township, erect a monument on it with the names of the fallen soldiers suitably inscribed, and to beautify the area with ornamental trees, etc. This, it is felt, would prove an ocular demonstration of the feelings of tlie residents of the district for those that had made the supreme sacrifice in the defence of their country and the rights of humanity, and also to fittingly serve as a lasting reminder to posterity. Messrs J. Old and M. Elliott have kindly donated a silver tea service and Mr. N, Street a silver cup. Mr. J. Scott (the father of <he Co'}!? u i>) ha? kindly consented to judge at the triaK j
