WAITARA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Waitara, Feb. 11. On Sunday the band played a programme of music at the seaside. The band committee made arrangements for having afternoon tea, ice creams, soft drinku, etc, and drawn by these attractions a large number of people congregated at the beach, and to all appearance enjoyed themselves heartily. The weather was very conducive to sea bathing, and quite a crowd took advantage of the occasion to have a dip in the briny. Financially the band did very veil, theft funds benefiting to the extent of abovst £lO. The ice creams and soft drinks were dispensed by Mesdames Young and Aubrey, and the afternoon tea was in the "hands of Mesdauies Spurdle, Cudby, Langman, and W. Skelton, who had a very dusa time. The school committee held theii monthly meeting last night, at which the chief topic of discussion was the use of the baths (which are now completed) by the children and the public, it was decided that as the baths were built primarily for the children nothing should be allowed to interfere with their hours. The public are to be admitted before 8 a.m. and after 5 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays, at a charge for tho remainder of the 'season of 55." The question of supervision was discussed, and a meeting of the committee is to be held on Saturday night to go further into the matter. All the money taken for bathing tickets will be spent on the baths.

The school has started with a very fair attendance, the average being 303. Th»re were 25 pupils ndmitted and H withdrawn at the end of the year. We are sorry to have to report the death of Mr. \V. T. Richards' second son, Kay Wilfred, 7 years of age. His death was caused by cerebro-spinal meningitis, and is the second one in the family in. a few months. Much sympathy is felt for the parents.
