MONTHLY MEETING, j The ordinary meeting of County Council was held on (Saturday, when, in tne absence of the chairman (Ur C. J. Belcher/, Cr. €- E. Motiuiuaess was called upon to preside, The chairman ~.■ \ tended a cordial welcome to Ur. W. Ji. Carter, elected in place of Or. A C. Pease resigned-<-.i- VV. K. (Janet briefly ireuiraed tlumkßThe engineer (Mr R- D. Toswell) reported on work during the month. Tli* engineer stated that wandering cattle were damaging the Kawbitieroa road beyond Moeroa, and unless this was ■stopped it was useless attempting to i improve the road. —The settlers, who own tie cattle, are to be given notice to discontinue the practice. It was resolved to proceed with the erection of a new bridge in concrete i> ,-i' t.lu* Mangawheroiti river immediately, plans and specifications to be prepared by nest month. The engineer pointed out that it would be a very expeusive matter at the present time. Or Barker referred to the unsatisfactory slate of the Upper Auroa road, which was breaking up badly during the dry weatherThe engineer stated that the lower end would be tarred this season. The committee's action in getting the Stratford County Council to fix up the repairs of the Wingrove road was approved. THE HOSPITAL LEVY. The Hawera Hospital and Charitable Aid Board notified ti.at it had completed the purchase of the new hospital site, and appßed for the Council's contribution of £687 Ss under the levy made on contributing bodies.. Or Campbell strongly favored the striking of a special hospital rate. i Cr. Measana, considered it was absolute madness for the Board to purchase land at £IBO per acre for dairying. Cr Campbell pointed out. that the saving on the milk bill at the hospital would be a big item. The Government were finding half the money for the purchase of the land. UPPER AUKOA ROAD. Edward de May, R. Hartley, R. Evans and G. Hollis, settlers on the .upper Auroa road, petitioned that the additional money to be expended on the Auroa road should be allocated so as to continue the present metal. They considered the amount (£300) too trifling to do much good at the top of the road. Mr Sullivan asked that the money should be expended at the top of the road as previously decidedThe engineer stated that he favored jontinuing the present metal. It was >ractically use loss metalling the top of he roa.f.l, where there was an impassible iiece of road below it. Cr Parker "utved that the engineer he l authorised to proceed with the work j in accordance with the previous deI .-ision.—Carried. GENERAL. The Depai tment of Internal Affairs notified that it was proposed to hold a Dominion Town Planning Conference and exhibition in Wellington about May, the objects being, firstly to consider suggested legislation dealing with 'the subject to town planning.—Members considered that the County Council was not interested in the matter. The County ranger's report showed that a number of straying cattle had been impounded, whilst driving fees had been paid on others. He also reported on a number of properties in various ridings whijh had noxious weeds and overhanging hedges on their frontages—Notices will be sent to all these ratepayers as well as to a number, when the engineer reported in regard to hedges and outlets.. The Public Works Department notified tf'st the Minister of Public Works was desirous of obtaining particulars as to the average cost per yard of placing metal on roJtss in the various counties throughout the Dominion. —Left in lin.ids of engineer to supply information. The Public Works Department notified having forwarde,d £ISO to the County fnnd on account of flood damage generally. Scoutmaster F. G. Taylor, on behalf of the local troop of hoy scouts, wrote thanking the Council for the use of the motor lorry to oenvev the loys to and from their recent camp.
