Auckland, Last NigW The majority of the Jugo-Slavs, irhft have been required to perform national , service under the regulations, appear to have decided to defy the authorities. A very Jorge number of these aliens were given leave of abaeitce from variom works when the epidemic waa prevalent, and at Christmas they did not return to' ' work, and Commissioner Cullen an* nouneed that th-ay would be given until January 27 to return, but there has been no response. It ia known to the authorities that many have disappeared with the intention of doing no more Government work, and others ore sheltering behind j medical certificates which the authorities 4 believe have been rather easily received in r.ome quarters. What course of ae- j tion is to ha taken to deal with these defaulters is now being considered. Thi* morning information was received that a ; party of Jugo-Slavs employed on the works near Faeron struck, work, but no details are yet to hand
