SATING ON UNIMPROVED VALUE.
To the Editor. Sir, —I am glad this matter has been raispd by your correspondent. Of course, rating on unimproved value would not decrease the total amount of rates required by the council for expenditure an if improvements The total rat»; would bo the same, but the owners of unimproved land would bear u greater share than they do at present, and this would lessen those- now being borne by owners of sections whicli have been improved with buildings thereon. Some few years since I was simultaneously interested : n Wellington house property and suburban sections where rating on unimproved value is in vogue and also New Plymouth house property and suburban fecf.ic-ns A comparison rf rate payable may interest ratepayers here-
