BROKEN PROMISE OFGOVERNMENT % TolfgrapV— -V r«s Asi»c;&tS«s, J / Christchurch, Last Night At a meeting of the North Canterbury Farmers' Union to-day, considerable indignation was expressed at the action of the Government in breaking its promise to pay (1» 4d per bushel for this season'* wheat and allow a free market. It was pointed out that many farmers had grown wheat who would not otherwise have done so, owing to the promise of a tree; market. Aii opinion was also expressed that the promise as to next season's crop was "like piecrust, made to be broken." Mr. G. W. Lill suggested that aii the branches should be communicated with to see if they would disregard the Go- . vernment's prices, and, in fact, defy aullfc declare war on the Government^ Mr. Shcat: A bit of Bolshevism, eh? It was eventually decided that the Government be requested to observe its agreement with the farmers.
