GREETING TO GENERAL PAU.

A telegram from the Syrian Society of Wellington called upon General Pau this afternoon to bring to him this greetings of Syrian residents on the victory of tho Allies. They presented General Pau with a very flue Maori carved pipe as a memento of his passage here. The General expressed his moat hearty thanks for their greetings, and reminded them that the traditional links of sympathy had always tied the French and Syrians. He also thanked them for the proofs of the friendship which the Syrian* had given to France, both in the dtetankoast und during the great war, and for th» practical token of good feeling which now exists between the Syrians and the French,
