"Richardson vas SergV Major for eighteen months. His brother, Sergt. P. G. Richardson, MJ£, was killed in action on August 31, after more than three yeara' service. At Bethlehem, Bay of I'lenty, on the last day of the old year, a large number cf relatives and frienda met at the- residence of Mr. J. W. Olive; to celebrate the golden wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Oliver. Fifty yeju-3 ago tlioy were married in. Sew Plymouth in the year 1563 by the Rev. G. Waters. Thefr parents enme oat together to New Zealand in the ship Amelia Thompson in the year 184 L The two families settled in the Taranaki district, and there Mr. and Mrs. Oliver were born and lived until about nine years ago, when they moved to the Bay of Plenty, their present home. They have a family of four sons and threo-daughters living, 25 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Their youngest son Harold is now in France, serving his King and country, and some of their grandsons have done their share in winning the war. Mr. Oliver is one of the few remaining veterans of tho Maori war, and ho is the holder of tho Maori war medal and also possesses the Veter-; ans' Medal. Corporal Charles Oliver enlisted at the early ago of 17 and served in the Maori war for nearly seven years, passing through many exciting experiences during tliat time. At the close of the war he took v.p bush land in the Mangorei district, near New Plymouth, and hero they carved out a lionse Mr. and Mrs. Oliver belong to the sturdy pioneer settlers of the curly days of New Zealand, who helped to build this Dominion of the Southern Seas. The liappy gathering was concluded by many congratulations and good wishes by those present, and numerous presents and telegrams from others, the singing of a Christmas hymn, and tie National Anthem.
