THE PEOPLE'S. "CAVANAGH OF THE FOREST RANGERS, A realistic and red-blooded romance of the rugged North-West is superbly depicted in the Vitagraph special feature "Cavanagh of the Forest Rangers," opening a two-nights season at the People's tonight. It is a drama of deeds and daring, containing snappy action, splendid acting, and beautiful scenes taken amid the timbered Canadian heights. "Oavanagh of the Forest Rangers" has been adapted from the novel by HamlLn Garland with conspicuous success The author has created some very clever human touches, and in the weaving of his story has steered clear of the usual western drama. His story is something different from the usual run, and has been worked up to a striking climax, and the events from start to finish have been introduced in logical order The picture affords a new type of western drama, and will be accepted by an audience with a welcome. Much of the action takes place in the open, ideal localities having been used, some of tlie scenes 'being strikingly beautiful. The supports include a fine two-reel comedy and travelog. ' ' -• 'il H. G. G* WINKELMANI^ 'An adjourned'meeting of creditors iu the estate of N. G. G. Winkelmann, who formerly carried on business in.New.Ply- [ mouth as an engineer, was held at the office of the Deputy Official Assignee (Mr. J. S. S. Medley) on Wednesday afternoon. The former meeting was adjourned. at the request of bankrupt, who is now living in Auckland, and who in a letter to the D.O.A. said his main reason in asking for the adjournment was because there was a possibility, though only a faint one, of his being able to satisfy all his creditors in full.

Bankrupt was not present, and the D.O.A. explained that he had received the following letter from bankrupt, dated Auckland, December -29: "I am in receipt of your memo, advising me to seua you the key of my Fitzroy property. This I am posting to you under separate cover, registered. I have noted your remarks, too. It is impossible for me tc journey to New Plymouth by the loth, as I have no money to do 50.,. If yon will adjourn tho meeting until a contract I hav« in hand is completed, and which, owing to the holidays, I have not been able to work at, I will be able to pay my expenses down to New Plymouth. This contract will bo completed on or aibout the end of January, 1919, at the latest. I suggest under these circumstances that the meeting be held about February 17. This will enable mo to be in New Plymouth a week ibefore the meeting of creditors to arrange my estate. If I am not allowed extension of time and have to be down on the 15th please inform me where to get my expenses, approximating £6, to come down with."

The D.O.A. said that if the creditors liked to risk the £0 he would send the money to the D.O.A. in Auckland, who would no doubt get in touch with Winkelmann.

Several creditors stated they had no intention of advancing anything towards travelling expenses.

The D.O.A said he had not assets m hand and therefore could not advance any money.

Mr. R. H. Quilliam, representing the petitioning and another creditor, said he was afraid that if the meeting was adjourned Wiukelrr.ann would not appear. Bankrupt bad done nothing required of him by the Bankruptcy Act, and was treating his creditors with contempt. He fe'.t that they should have him arrested. If it was not worth creditors' 'while arresting him then it was not -,. : orth while going on with the thing at all.

Mr. Medley, in reply to; one of the creditors, said that only thirteen creditors had proved, but he understood there was a considerable number of others in town and aiso a good mwiy outside firms.

No decision was arrived at, but it was intimated that the money would probably be advanced to enable bankrupt to'be arret'.ru and brought to New PI) mouth
