| AMALGAMATION OF TEACHERS.

Eiforts are being made to bring about an amalgamation of all bodies of teachers. At present, the Educational Institute comprises the primary school teachers only This morning, at the Educational Institute Conference, on the motion of H. A. Parkinson, it was resolved that tlio executive should bo empowered to complete the amalgamation with the Technical School Teachers' Association. It was stated *by Mr Parkinson that there would have been an amalgamation with the Secondary School Teachers' Association but for a difference as to representation on the executive.
FURTHER RESOLUTIONS.!
j'* Wellington, Jan. 15. i The Educational Institute, after two ! day's discussion, passed a resolution that salaries should be scheduled according to the graded list of teachers, the minimum for a qualified teacher to bo £l5O per annum and the maximum £OOO, provided that further payment may be made for special services. For temporary teachers the minimum should be £135 per annum. Several amendments were moved in the direction of making length of service, efficiency, and responsibility factors in determining payment, but the i resolution was ultimately carried without ! amendment. ! It was then resolved that grading should be in accordance with efficiency and length of service. A resolution was also carried against examining private schools and issuing i certificates for public privileges on the ground that the State had no business to foster competitors with its own system.
