Jones (nee Miss Annie Kovaleski), of Tuna, has reeceived advice from the Base Eecords that her husband, Trooper P. N. Jone:-., is returning with draft No. 20S, which ia expected to arrive in about ten days.
Mrs. Hugh Richmond, Midhirst, has received similar advice, that Lance-Cor-poral A. T. Richmond was returning by the same draft.
Taranaki A. and P. shows are looming on the horizon. To day, Mr. Perkins, of the Bawera Association, was in town on business, whilst Mr A. D. Stanley, the Stratford secretary, leaves for Feilding show to try his luck there in securing entries for our show here. The fact oi the three Taranaki associations holding their shows within the month of February should greatly assist exhibitors from a distance to bring their stock this way and see how they compare with the Taranaki cattle-
When funds permit, the Domain Board contemplates the erection of another suspension bridge over the Patea River, in King Edward Park. This pretty spot lies in the heart of the town, and deserves every support from the public, as, with practical sympathy being shown, much necessary work can be occomplished. Provided the estimate does not exceed £BO, the board will shortly proceed with the work. A successor to Mr. H. Penn as secretary to the School Committee has been found. Mr A. D. Stanley having accepted the position. The new secretary should fill the position to the satisfaction of allStratford County Council meets on Saturday. The appointment of a successor to the retiring engineer (Mr Lopdell) will probably be before the Council. The tribute paid to the retiring engineer's ability by the chairman and other members was fully deserved, bearing in wind the large tract of county he had to supervise, the shortage of labor, and other handicaps.
I understand tliere are a good number of applicants for the vacancy, so the council shqjild have no difficulty in filling the position.
Whilst it is satisfactory to record good business during the holidays, Mr. v. k. James desires ty make known that he is still offering ladies' handbags at lowest prices.
