MOA ROAD BOARD AFFAIRS.
To the Editor. Sir, —Kindly allow me a little space ill your valuable paper to reply to the insolent and spiteful remarks made against me by Mr. A. Corkill at last Saturday's meeting of the Moa Road Board. That sort of business is one of the very few things that he excels in, and coming from him can be accepted for what it 13 worth. Let me tell Mr. Corkill that my property is not for sale, and even if it were I would not take the Board's men off important work to metal a road to my back door and then blame the overseer for it. Mr. Corkill need not wonder why I would not sit on the board any longer when I told them that I would not sit on a board with men who would disregard the overseer's report, and, further, would not even take the trouble to inspect the road which is a disgrace to them, and yet they would exercise their vote against that road receiving a little repair I may say there is £65 collected every year from the settlers on the Kaimata Road North, and there has not been a stone carted on the road for over two years and the books of the board show a credit of £2O when there has been £l3O collected in a general rate since the last metalling was done or is due to be collected, so if office expenses and administration are going to take practically all the general rate I think it is high time the Board either retired from office or handed the rate to the settlers interested and let them maintain their road themselves. I am sure it would not be in a worse state than at present.—l am, etc., F. A. REESBY. Kaimata, Jan. 7
