Douglas settlers mustered in goodly numbers at the hall on Saturday evening to farewell Mr. E. Cain, who has looked after the wants of the Douglas folks during the past twelve months its storekeeper He has disposed of the nusine.ss, and is taking up the duties of fruit farming in the Wairarapa district. Although his proprietorship of the store was not of any length, Mr. Caini made himself very popular; hence the decision of some of his close friends to entertain him. The hours passed most pleasantly, and as a further memento of his association there he was presented with a fountain pen. It may be mentioned that Mr. Cain is a returned soldier, and will carry with him the good wishes of all for his future prosperity. Writing on Douglas matters reminds me that the teacher of the local school— Miss Westreed—has been congratulated by the committee on the successful results of the school work during the year The following scholars have secured proficiency certificates: Leslie Bunning, Harold and Dulcic Needham, Richard Wat-j son, Bertram Wilmhurst and Ada Chapman. I

Stratford's main electoral roll • has; closed with about 6003 names—about equal to previous rolls. Electors should see that their names are on this or the supplementary rolls.

Contractors are notified that the Stratford County Council invites tenders for boulder stone and other metal.
